Comfort Umoren-Olorunnisomo

I am a doctoral student in journalism and media studies at the School of Communication and Information, Rutgers University. Previously, I obtained an MA and BA in Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and an Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (formerly Lagos State Polytechnic), Nigeria.

Fascinated by the feedback loop between screens and real life, my research focuses on how we use media to make sense of complex events, assess information quality, negotiate identity, power, and belonging, and drive social change across different political and sociocultural settings. Generally speaking, my research sits at the intersection of digital media, information quality, civic life, and social change.

I employ both qualitative and quantitative methods in my work, including interviews, focused group discussions (FGDs), surveys, and content analyses.

I currently serve as the president of the Doctoral Students' Association at the School of Communication and Information, Rutgers University; a Dean's Fellowship awardee; and an alumna of the Atlas Corps Fellowship Program.

Professionally, I have worked at the Knowledge, Skills, and Entrepreneurship (KSE) Network as the COO; at Alpha Reach as a media relations officer; and at This Day newspaper as a reporter. I have volunteered as a project manager at Krystal Digital's World Bank Digital Skills in Nigeria and Maxsom Enterprises.
